The HorrorPlaylist: Touched by the Sound and Vision--A David Bowie Tribute

compiled by Anthony Servante

This month, the HorrorPlaylist shares various covers and retakes of classic David Bowie songs. We'll hear a wide selection of soft and hard rockers, covering his Psychedelic Era, his Glam Rock, and even his oddly Pop-sounding hits from the 60s to today.

The singer, often described as a Rock chameleon, has influenced an array of musicians to stray from their music roots to explore the Bowie oeuvre.

So, relax with a Hot Toddy, a bowl of hash (preferably corn beef), and enjoy the Bowie sound in ways you may not have heard before.

13. Barbra Streisand--LIFE ON MARS
Those South Park creators may hate Barb, but you gotta love her take on this classic Bowie song.

12. Lulu--WATCH THAT MAN
After "To Sir With Love", Lulu tackled Bowie's songs and reignited her career.

11. Massive Attack--NATURE BOY
Massive Attack can sure spin a chaotic harmony with nimble skill.

10. Arcade Fire--FIVE YEARS
Bowie leads the vocals, while the Fire backs him up.

9. Bing Crosby/David Bowie--LITTLE DRUMMER BOY/PEACE ON EARTH
One of those flukes in music that brought two legends together.

8. King Crimson--HEROES
When King Crimson retired 21st Century Schizoid Man, they turned to Bowie for a replacement encore song in concert.

7. Nirvana--THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD
Part Bowie, part personal statement from Kurt Cobain.

6. Iggy Pop/Lenny Kravitz--REBEL REBEL
Iggy stays young singing 70s Glam Rock.

5. Mott the Hoople--ALL THE YOUNG DUDES
Bowie wrote the song for this band, and they busted the Billboard charts with it.

4. Annie Lennox/David Bowie (Queen)--UNDER PRESSURE
Annie reprises Freddie Mercury’s singing part in the duet with Bowie.

3. Def Leppard--SPACE ODDITY
This Bowie cover by Hard Rockers Def Leppard has generated the most complaints on Youtube of all the songs on this list.

2. Bauhaus--ZIGGY STARDUST
Dark Gothic meets Sparkly Glitter and it works.

1. Ian McCulloch--CHANGES
Echo and the Bunnymen leadman, Ian McCulloch, does a solo turn on this Bowie song.
